Proving that age really is no barrier, Mick tells us why he likes working at Wetherspoon.

Hi, I’m Mick.
I’ve been working at Wetherspoon between The Catherine Wheel (Henley-on-Thames) and The Hope Tap (Reading) for 13 years. My main reason for working at Wetherspoon is Mr Tim Martin – he’s a great boss you can always talk to.
I love my job because I like people. By talking to people in the pub, it makes you feel like you are there for them, to listen to their problems and to celebrate their life successes.
I take pleasure in assisting those with special needs, when required. I like to look after the customers, so that they become regulars.
I am 81 years old and will retire when I can no longer do my job.
Becci, deputy manager at The Hope Tap, describes Mick as the most kind-hearted man she has ever worked with, like an adopted grandad! “He always goes out of his way to help customers and is very creative,” says Becci.
When not working in one of our pubs, Mick looks after a dementia team.
